About the project

Windows of Wonder 2023_Photo Catherine Benson-8.jpg

As the High Street continues to evolve, Windows of Wonder offers an imaginative response to the challenge of vacant retail spaces around the town. Empty windows offer a stage for stories, stories we craft and stories we share, so an empty window is not simply an economic void, it subtracts from the fabric of possible interactions within our shared space.

Windows of Wonder grew through the generosity of many people giving their time; making introductions, offering help, insights and expertise. The project offered opportunities to initiate conversations with Lewes District Council, landlords, letting agents, business owners and residents of former shops. We hope you have enjoyed these first 19 windows exploring imaginative ways to enrich the art of placemaking.
